I spent the early part of my life in the Theatre as a Company Manager. I watched from the wings as the lights, sets, and actors dazzled audiences. None of that awe could prepare me for the first time I saw a child being born.
I became a Doula in the summer of 2002, a year and a half after the birth of my first daughter. In November of that year, I had the honor of “catching” a baby after my client had been sent home by her provider. It was a beautiful unplanned Homebirth, that completely took me by surprise. I have since been present at the births of many babies (at homes and hospitals). Each birth brings with it a thrill that is unmatched by even the most ambitious Theatrical Productions.
Teaching has always been a great joy to me. (I use to teach Theatre and Play-writing to kids.) When the opportunity to teach Childbirth Education arose I took it, doing my training through CAPPA in 2005 and then certified through LAMAZE INTERNATIONAL .
I started teaching small class at the Henderson Rec Centers and Breastfeeding class at Local WIC offices. Then moved into Larger groups, private Childbirth Education Classes and Home Lactation Support (I received my Lactation Counselor Certification (CLC) in the fall of 2004). Now, I am branching out with Community Partners to create a network of education and support for teens and women in at-risk communities.
No mater where I am, a WIC classroom or in the living room of a private Client, there is one thing that remains constant. The simple truth that Birth works! Our bodies works! We were not created by faulty design. And with patience, proper support, and education we can all be empowered to make the best choices for our families and communities.
My story isn’t done yet. Watching my girls grow and loving Las Vegas. I am excited to be apart of the dynamic and positive Birth Community in the Las Vegas Valley. Life is a joy. Thank you for joining me on this leg of the journey.
