The Las Vegas Doula Project

In Boston, Chicago, Seattle and San Diego as well as Military Bases and small towns around the world, women have joined together to create a circle of support for the laboring mother. A woman who will hold her hand, give her good information and be witness to her power. Supporting her in her most vulnerable and magical time - the birth to her baby.

These women are Doulas, and they are skilled, knowledgeable practitioners of Mother-to-Mother care. Her role, as a valuable member of the mother’s Birth Team, is well established in many cities – half our size! Locally, Doulas seem to be visible only to Mothers and who know what to look for and can afford the service. Hospitals in affluent areas Recognize them when they come with Birth Balls and Essential Oils for message.

Now in Las Vegas, Medical Centers and Midwifery practices are expanding care to many under-served neighborhoods. The term “Doula” is still met with questioning looks.

Sisters, Mothers, Friends felt it was time to engage the Medical and Doula communities and work collaboratively with agencies to connect Mothers (who wouldn’t normally have the resources to hire a doula) and the Doulas currently working in Las Vegas.

Sisters, Mothers, Friends provides free or low-cost Lamaze Classes to area organizations who serve at risk women and families. This allows us to reach Mothers where they are already seeking services.

It is important for a Doula to connect with clients pre-natally. This will establish a relationship that is valuable during the hours of Labor and postpartum bonding.

When an agency finds a mother who would benefit from our services they fill out a referral form and send it to us. We will work with the client to match them with a Doula in the referral network and provide her with Childbirth Education.

Sisters, Mothers, Friends is here to make a difference in the lives of Women and their Babies. To help Mothers create the childbirth experience that is both empowering and satisfying.

Like many volunteer Doulas Services, we want to support laboring mothers from every walk of life, without regard to her ability to pay. Serving as a referral network for Practitioners, Community Agencies, and Families. We wish to expand our services to include bilingual Doulas to help mothers who have come to Las Vegas from all over the world. Our directive is to recruit volunteers who are passionate about helping mothers and training them in the art of Doula Care. Providing them with the opportunity to become certified by a national agency.

Supporting Laboring families is only one way we wish to empower Women to do the great work of Mothering. Our future goal is to establish a Scholarship Program for our Volunteers. We wish to support our Volunteers in their desire to continue their own education with scholarships regardless of their field of study.
